Shorinji Kempo 2nd Kyu Syllabus

Goho

Tenshin geri

  • Prepare: tai chudan gamae.
  • Offence: ichigi gamae, gyaku zuki jodan
  • Defence:Chidori ashi, mae rysui geri
  • Finish with ren hen ko
  • 5

Uchi uke geri

  • Prepare: Tae chudan gamae
  • Offence: Gyaku zuki jodan
  • Defence: Uchi uke. drop onto back leg & raise front. Sokuto geri
  • Finish with sokuto geri follwed by ren hen ko
  • 5

Yoko tenshin geri

  • Offence: ichiji gamae
  • Defence: chudan gamae.
  • Prepare: Tae gamae
  • Attack: Gyaku Geri
  • Technique: Step to side, Knock incoming Geri away with front hand. Jun Geri.
  • Finish with ren hen ko.

Han tenshin geri

  • Offence: ichiji gamae
  • Defence: chudan gamae
  • Prepare: Hiraki gamae
  • Attack: Gyaku geri
  • Technique: Quarter turn to let the Geri pass, Knock Geri down with back fist, knock away, Jun Geri.
  • Finish with ren hen ko.

Juji uke geri

  • Prepare: tai chudan gamae. defence, leave back hand a little open.
  • Offence: Sashikomi ashi. yoshi ashi, maewashi geri.
  • Defence: Juji uke (hari uke, shito uke). Jun geri.
  • Finish with ren hen ko.

Tsubami gaeshi

  • Offence from chudan gamae
  • Defence from taiki gamae. Movement starts like Uchi Uke, but hand moves back up the attackers arm to strike the side of the neck & push.
  • Finish with ren hen ko.

Chidori gaeshi

  • Prepare: hiraki chudan gamae
  • Offence: jun jodan zuki
  • Defence from taiki gamae, , uchi uke (outside), mae uchi, chudan zuki (mae san mae), kiri ashi
  • Finish with ren hen ko. For reference see page 32 of Shorinji Kempo Goho book.

Juho

Kiri nuki (uchi & soto)

  • Prepare: Hiraki gamae
  • Attacker grabs and pulls.
  • Technique:
    • Step in to Kagite Shuho. Mae uchi,
    • Curl hand towards attackers thumb while turning toward and pull away.
    • Turn back knocking hand out of the way and finish with Kumade to Mikazuki
  • 4

Katate Juji nuki

  • Prepare: Hiraki gedan gamae
  • Defence: Gedan gamae offering front wrist.
  • Offence: Grab wrist with same side hand and push.
  • Technique:
    • Juji nuki, twist front arm around so the elbow crosses over.
    • Ura ken

Ryote Juji nuki

  • Defence: Offer both wrists
  • Offence: Grab both wrists from the outside & push
  • Technique:
    • Kagite to waist height
    • Front hand release with juji nuki twisting hips, ura ken(?) to seigetsu.
    • Back hand release using kiri nuki, kumade

Gassho nuki

  • Attack: Grab and push wrists.
  • Defence from gassho gamae
  • Technique: As the attacker grabs, push forward toward the eyes whilst making stronger stance by dropping a leg back. As for kiri nuki, curl hands under towards thumbs and draw back. Mae uchi with both hands.
  • 4

Juji gote (katate & Ryote)

  • Prepare: Chudan gamae, Offer front hand high to face level
  • Attack: Same side hand grab and push wrist.
  • Defence: Move hand back to Kagite. Spread and point fingers to centre line of attacker to get bend in wrist. Other hand grabs over top. Move elbow over attackers elbow. Strike to Amon.

Ryaku juji gote

  • Move to sankaku shuho.

Ryote okuri gote

  • Kagite, Maki (or Yori?) nuki the front hand, step over, Okuri gote
  • Finish with ura gatame.
  • 2

Kiri kaeshi nuki (Katate & Morote)

  • Prepare: Hiraki Gamae
  • Defence: Gedan gamae. Kagite Shuho low, Kiri nuki followed by Naiwanto.

Sankaku nuki

  • Prepare:
  • Defence from gedan gamae. Sankaku shuho. Elude, followed by ura ken.

Kiri gote (Katate & Morote)

  • Offence: Grap same side hand over the top of the wrist as if to twist it behind the back
  • Defence from gedan gamae. Mae uchi, Kagite, clamp hand underneath. Make the Maki position, then Geri to chudan.

Tenchiken dai ichi - ni Performed from Hidari and migi

  • Ichi: Jun furi zuki, gyaku zuki
  • Ni: Uke
  • San: Jun zuki
  • Chi: Sashi kai ashi, jun zuki
  • Go:

Giwa ken dai ichi

  • Ichi: Mae chidori ashi, jun zuki jodan
  • Ni: Gyaku zuki chudan
  • San: Hariuke
  • Chi: Jun geri
  • Go: Zen tenkan, closed fist
  • Repeat

  • Mae chidori ashi
  • Ushiro chidori ashi
  • Juji ashi
